Choosing the Right Badge Size: A guide to eBadges badge sizes

Badge On Clothing Multiple Badges

When it comes to badge making, size really does matter. The badge size you choose affects how your design looks, how much information you can include, and how the finished badge is used or worn. At eBadges, we offer a wide range of badge sizes so you can create badges that are perfectly suited to your project – whether that’s branding, rewards, fundraising or celebrations.

In this guide, we’ll walk through the eBadges badge sizes: 25mm, 38mm, 45mm, 58mm and 77mm

We’ll also explain what each size is best used for, helping you choose the right option with confidence.

Why Badge Size Matters

Different badge sizes suit different purposes. A small logo badge needs clarity and subtlety, while a celebration badge benefits from bold designs that grab attention. Understanding badge sizes helps you:

  • Design more effective badges
  • Choose the right size for your audience
  • Avoid overcrowding designs
  • Get better results from your badge maker

Note that all sizes are compatible with all three of our badge makers, so whichever one you use, you can make our full range of badges (and more!).

25mm badges – small, subtle & professional

25mm (1 inch) badges are one of the most popular sizes for branding and subtle messaging.

They are ideal for:

  • Band-style pins and logo badges
  • Company branding and promotional use
  • Clubs, societies and uniforms
  • Discreet name or icon badges

Because of their compact size, 25mm badges work best with simple designs such as logos, symbols, or short text. They’re professional, lightweight, and easy to wear without overpowering an outfit.

38mm badges – the perfect balance

38mm (1.5 in) badges are a fantastic all-rounder and one of the most versatile sizes available.

They are ideal for:

  • Combining text and an image
  • School rewards and achievements
  • Clubs, charities and awareness campaigns
  • Fundraising badges

This size gives you enough space for creativity while remaining comfortable to wear. If you’re unsure which size to choose, 38mm is often a safe and flexible option.

45mm badges – more space, still easy to wear

45mm (1.75 in) badges offer a step up in size without becoming oversized. They’re ideal when your design needs a little more breathing room.

They are ideal for:

  • Event badges and special occasions
  • Logos with taglines or extra detail
  • Campaigns that need visibility without bulk
  • Group or team identifiers

45mm badges strike a balance between impact and wearability, making them popular for events, clubs and organisations wanting a clear, noticeable badge that’s still practical.

58mm badges – bold, fun & attention-grabbing

58mm (2.25 in) badges are one of the most recognisable and eye-catching badge sizes.

They are ideal for:

  • Birthdays and celebrations
  • Children’s activities and rewards
  • Fundraising and promotional events
  • Drawing attention to messages

This size is especially popular with children, as it offers plenty of space for drawing, colouring and freehand designs. If you want a badge that stands out, 58mm is a great choice.

77mm badges – maximum impact & creative freedom

77mm (3 in) badges are the largest standard size and are all about making a statement.

They are ideal for:

  • Big celebrations and milestone birthdays
  • Large events and festivals
  • Children’s artwork and freestyle designs
  • Statement badges and photo-based designs

With lots of design space, 77mm badges are perfect when creativity and visibility are key.

They’re often used when the badge itself is part of the fun.

Which Badge Size Is Right for Me?

Ask yourself:

  • Is this badge subtle or attention-grabbing?
  • Will it include text, images, or drawings?
  • Who will be wearing or using it?
  • Is it for branding, rewards, or celebration?

In our experience, smaller sizes work best for logos and subtle branding, while larger sizes are perfect for creativity, children, and events.

Badge Sizing FAQs

No – while some entry-level badge machines are fixed size, eBadges badge makers can make badges in all 5 sizes. All you need to do is switch out the interchangeable die (you may also need to use a spacer). By doing this, you can use one machine but switch between making 25mm button badges and 77mm celebration badges in seconds.

When you’re making a badge, the paper needs to wrap around the edges of the metal front to be crimped into place securely. This wraparound is called the “bleed area”. So, to accommodate this bleed area, for a 25mm badge, for example, you’d need to cut your paper in a 35mm circle so it can be crimped around the badge.

You should make sure your background colour extends into the bleed area, but your design itself should sit within the main badge area.

The exact size you’ll need to cut your artwork to varies depending on the badge size you’re making, but here are our guideline sizes:

Standard printer paper is ideal; however, you can use any paper (or even fabric) as long as it is not too thick. Paper between 80-110 gsm is usually what we recommend. Anything thinner than that may tear; anything thicker won’t crimp and may jam your machine.
